Making Seasons Bright- Volunteers, Seasonal Programs, and Special Events
Our series on volunteers at MOM must include recognition of our Seasonal and Special Events. Each of these annual events is designed either to serve a unique need within our community or to generate funds in support of our collective programming. Targeted events include Back to School to provide supplies to school-age children. Our Winter Wishes program is a holiday gift card program. Events that help us raise funds and awareness include our FCI Art Show, Holiday Art Fair and Chip in to End Hunger Golf Event.
These programs would not be possible without the work of our dedicated volunteers. For Back to School, our lead volunteer, Lynn, organizes supplies, keeps track of inventory, purchases supplies, and facilitates the distribution of backpacks at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Middleton. Other volunteers organize school supply drives, sort supplies, fill backpacks, transfer backpacks to the distribution site at St. Luke’s and distribute backpacks to families. Last year over 500 backpacks and supplies were distributed!
Volunteers for the Winter Wishes program match families and individuals to donors, purchase needed gift cards, and package gift cards in festive bags. The process ends with the distribution of the gift bags. Last year over 1,600 gift cards were distributed.
Terry has volunteered for Seasonal and Special Events since 2017. She says, “Working in this role at MOM has been incredibly meaningful to me. It has allowed me to meet and appreciate so many people in our community. Meeting with clients and donors has been heartwarming, filling me with admiration and respect for both the generosity and resilience shown.” Terry also enjoys getting to know and see the MOM staff in action. “Their dedication and commitment to clients within all of the difficult challenges and circumstances that arise, particularly in the past two years, has been inspiring.”
