Volunteer

Volunteers are the heart of MOM and vital to the success of all of our programs. By volunteering, you'll help prevent homelessness and end hunger in our community. While you give your time and talent to help build stability for others, you'll also meet new people and have the chance to try out new activities and learn new skills while experiencing the satisfaction of serving your community. We offer one-time and recurring volunteer opportunities, which are listed below.

ONE-TIME VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

PACK FOOD DELIVERIES
Pack refrigerated, frozen, and shelf stable items into grocery bags and stage the orders for next day delivery (you will stand and walk throughout these volunteer shifts). Volunteers ages 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers 16 and up may volunteer independently.

OUTDOOR CHORES FOR SENIORS
Provide assistance with yard work and other seasonal upkeep during the fall or spring to help support seniors' (60+) ability to live independently.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Staff signature events that raise funds for our programs and services, including the Chip in to End Hunger Golf event (September) and the Holiday Art Market (December).

RECURRING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Many of our current volunteer opportunities are for individuals 18 and older who can commit to volunteering on a regular basis. Several opportunities are also available for individuals 16 and older. Click on the 'Show More' button below each opportunity to learn more and the 'Apply' button if you are interested in submitting an inquiry form. Volunteer Opportunity:

At MOM

Donation Ambassador - Food Pantry

You can help make it possible for MOM to have an incoming supply of food and clothing for MOM guests. As a Donation Ambassador you will:

  • Warmly greet food and/or clothing donors at the food pantry
  • Follow established messaging outline
  • Help donors fill out a donation slip and make sure the information is complete
  • Sort food donations, as time permits
  • Clean and tidy volunteer area at end of shift

The ideal volunteer will be available for a minimum of one regular shift on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis for at least 6 months. Of course, this is with the understanding that a volunteer will likely need flexibility for vacations, sickness, appointments, etc.

Clean Team - Food Pantry

Help us make the Food Pantry shine for those we serve and to maintain best practices for health and safety. Join several other volunteers on Thursdays* from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Sweep the floors, vacuum rugs, wipe down food counter-tops, mop floors, etc. We need your help once a week, every other week, or even once a month!

Volunteer Opportunity:

Warehouse Receiving & Unloading - Distribution Center - NEW WED & FRI SHIFTS

Help ensure that the MOM food pantry inventory is augmented, maintained, organized, and safe so that MOM guests can receive the nutrition they need to thrive.

You will join an experienced team of volunteers to:

  • Represent MOM’s values during food rescue,  food drives, or while unloading food delivery trucks
  • Safely label and store incoming food in 3 different temperature zones
  • Miscellaneous tasks to keep the warehouse area in the Distribution Center clean, organized, and running smoothly
  • Work as part of a team to complete all tasks in a safe manner (including team lifting)

The ideal volunteer will be available for a minimum of one weekly volunteer shift for at least 6 months. Of course, this is with the understanding that a volunteer may need flexibility for vacation, sickness, appointments, etc.

Volunteer Driver (Rides) - Seniors Program

Help seniors by providing door-to-door transportation to their appointments.

Help a Senior with Light Chores - Seniors Program

Some seniors in our community need a bit of help to keep things tidy, organized, or maintained so that they can remain in their independent household. Enjoy a one-time chore or developing a relationship with your senior as you help on a recurring basis. 

All homesites are visited and approved by a MOM case manager.

Guest Check-In/Registration

Be part of a team that provides a dignified and respectful shopping experience for guests accessing the MOM food pantry by:

  • Warmly greet guests, donors, visitors, and staff 
  • Check in certified MOM guests or register uncertified guests
  • Receive incoming calls to the Distribution Center
  • Maintain an organized, clean work station, reception area, and guest restrooms
  • Assist the Food Security Managers with miscellaneous administrative tasks to create and maintain appropriate records of Food Pantry and Clothing Center use

The ideal volunteer will be available for a minimum of one weekly volunteer shift for at least 6 months. Of course, this is with the understanding that a volunteer may need flexibility for vacation, sickness, appointments, etc. 

Volunteer Opportunity:

Guest Check-Out Assistant - Food Pantry

Be part of a team that provides a dignified and respectful shopping experience for guests accessing the MOM food pantry by:

  • Warmly greet Food Pantry guests when they are ready to check out
  • Measure and record food weight for each guest when they have completed their shopping
  • Assist guests to their vehicles, if needed
  • Maintain a clean and organized work station
  • Assist with other Food Pantry tasks, as needed

The ideal volunteer will be available for a minimum of one weekly volunteer shift for at least 6 months. Of course, this is with the understanding that a volunteer may need flexibility for vacation, sickness, appointments, etc.

Volunteer Opportunity:

Guest Greeter - Food Pantry

Be part of a team that provides a dignified and respectful shopping experience for guests accessing the MOM food pantry by:

  • Warmly welcoming food pantry guests, explaining the pantry flow, and offering assistance, as needed
  • Assist with other Food Pantry tasks, as needed and as time allows

The ideal volunteer will be available for a minimum of one weekly volunteer shift for at least 6 months. Of course, this is with the understanding that a volunteer may need flexibility for vacation, sickness, appointments, etc.

Volunteer Opportunity:

Stocker/Sorter/Guest Helper - Food Pantry

Be part of a team that provides a dignified and respectful shopping experience for our guests when you:

  • Sort and stock food donations during open pantry hours
  • Provide shopping assistance to pantry guests, as requested
  • Offer emergency food bags, if needed
  • Collect donations

The ideal volunteer will be available for a minimum of one weekly volunteer shift for at least 6 months. Of course, this is with the understanding that a volunteer may need flexibility for vacation, sickness, appointments, etc.

Scheduler - Seniors Program

Support the Seniors Program at the MOM Main Office! Arrange transportation for or food delivery to seniors from a list of available volunteers. Tasks include updating Google Sheets logs, listening to voicemail, making phone calls, and sending emails. 

The ideal volunteers will be available regularly on Thursdays or Fridays for about 2-3 hours per week.

Clutter Care Volunteer - Seniors Program

Is organization your superpower or would you like it to be?

You can directly help senior clients maintain their independence by providing indoor chore help specifically targeting clutter. Clutter affects safety in the home and housing stability.

Collaborating with the MOM Seniors Program Manager and individual seniors. you will help create and carry out a plan to declutter a senior’s home. 

Qualifications:

  • Dependable, friendly, compassionate, and patient
  • Ability to see multiple ways to accomplish a task
  • Willingness to conform to the wishes of the senior and find satisfaction in incremental progress
  • Flexibility as this new volunteer assignment evolves
