Back to School Program served over 900 students in 2015.

School Supplies Preventing Homelessness

We want to ensure that children from low-income families in our area receive the tools they need to succeed in school. This includes backpacks stuffed with grade level supplies for children in Pre-K through high school and supplies for college students.   Our goal is to reach 1,000 children this year - We could never pull off such an enormous task without your support.

MOM is currently collecting new school supplies and new back packs for this program. We are also accepting cash donations from individuals and businesses that would like to help, but don't have time the shop.

All supplies are needed and welcomed but we find the greatest needs each year include:

  • extra-large back packs for high school students
  • dry erase markers
  • three ring binders (without logos)
  • graph paper
  • dividers for folders and binders
  • protractors
  • compasses
  • black sharpies
  • Crayola crayons
  • plastic page protectors in packs of 10
  • 3x3 Post-it notes
  • scotch tape
  • pocket folders

All donations of brand new items are welcomed.

The Back to School Program is yet another way that MOM is working to keep families in stable housing, supplying them with the assistance they need to free up financial resources to pay for rent. The program also supplies relief to families worried about the extra expense, and joy to children as they prepare for a great year ahead.

Where to bring Donations

We are also accepting donations of new and gently used athletic apparel and equipment to help student athletes achieve success with extra-curricular activities. Many talented student athletes are not able to participate in their sport of choice due to lack of affordability.

Donations of sporting goods and gently used school supplies can be taken directly to the MOM Distribution Center

Brand new backpacks and school supplies should come directly to the MOM office. We are open Monday - Friday from 9:00 am until 4:30 pm.

You can also find brightly colored barrels in which to leave your donations throughout Middleton and Cross Plains, thanks to the Lions Club.

If possible, please bring your items by Friday August 20.  Donations will be accepted throughout August but may be used to give to children and area schools still in need after our scheduled client pick-up.  Thank you!

How else you can help

  • If you have a child, consider buying double of what is on your child's list.
  • Help organize a supply drive in your neighborhood, your church or at your office.
  • Not sure what to buy?  Purchase items off of our most needed list.

Are you a family in need of supplies?

Registered families are eligible to sign-up their kids for the program. The program operates during the months of July and August. Stop in or Contact our office at 608-836-7338 for more information and to see if you are eligible.

MOM's assistance prevents 500 families from becoming homeless every year.
