Front Desk Reception - Main Office

Program or Event:
All programs

Our front desk volunteers at the Main Office answer phones, greet and help with client and volunteer walk-ins, assist with client programs, and help with general office work at our main office. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

(Two to three hour shifts Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

Recycling Manager for Food Pantry

Program or Event:

Determine methods for recycling of excess produce and food waste.  Minimize disposal in trash and landfills by using food waste productively, i.e. compost, animal feed, etc.

Commitment:  At least 6 months; at least twice/week

Clothing Center

Program or Event:
Clothing Center

Have a passion for fashion?  Sort and hang clothing at our Distribution Center.  Make our Clothing Center appealing for the over 200 people who "shop" there monthly.  Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to volunteer.

(Monday - Thursday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (two hour shifts) and Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. - noon (three hour shifts))

** New volunteer shifts being added: Monday through Thursday, 2-4 pm (2 volunteers needed each shift).  Sign up for a weekly, 2 hour shift **

School Backpack/Supplies Program Committee Member

Program or Event:
School Supplies Program

Each year, MOM runs a School Backpack/Supplies Program that provides school-aged children and teens with items that they will need to be successful in the upcoming year.  Through the dedicated efforts of donors who supply the items and volunteers who assemble the packs, over 700 children will receive a backpack filled with a robust collection of the supplies they need, customized by the grade in which they are entering.

One or two new members are needed to join our Schools Supplies Program Committee to help plan this important event for MOM's school age clients.  You will be asked to complete 1 or 2 specific tasks, and attend a monthly meeting (daytime) in June, July and August, and assist during the week of the backpack distribution to clients (daytime) in August.  

Cleaners/Shelf Organizers at Food Pantry

Program or Event:

Clothing Center

Do you like to Clean and Organize?  Do you like to put a smile on the face of MOM clients when they see a clean building each day?  Help us clean the Food Pantry and organize the food shelves after hours!  Tuesdays or Thursdays 2:30-4:30 pm - weekly or every other week.  Two volunteers needed each shift, so sign up now with a friend!

And if food/clothing donations arrive while you are there cleaning, you will be trained on how to accept these donations.

Seniors Program Driver

Program or Event:
Seniors Program

Help seniors maintain independence by provide an occasional ride in a timely, courteous, and friendly manner.  Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver's license and must maintain liability auto insurance.

Volunteer once a week or once a month, whichever fits into your schedule.  Each Seniors Drive (round trip) lasts approximately two hours.

Senior Home Chore Assistance

Program or Event:
Seniors Program

Help seniors maintain household independence by providing outdoor and/or indoor home chore assistance for senior clients.

Seniors Shopping Assistance

Program or Event:  
Seniors Program

Provide shopping assistance to our senior clients either by accompanying them to the store or obtaining a list of their needed items and shopping for the client.

Food Pantry

Program or Event:
Food Pantry

Help clients at our food pantry to fill their shopping carts with groceries they need.  Help accept and process donated food.  Stock shelves, rotate food and remove outdated items, all while keeping the Distribution Center tidy! Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Data Entry

Program or Event:
All programs

Enter data into our database so we can better serve our clients and volunteers.  We need people familiar with computers and spreadsheets and who have a great attention to detail. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Weekdays in 1 or 2 or 3 hour shifts between the hours of 9 am and 4:30 pm. (Hours are flexible, but the day and time must be consistent.)

Distribution Center Reception

Greet clients as they arrive and assist them with use of the Center, including some basic record keeping, answering phones, assisting volunteers, and helping out with various projects. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Food Rescue Drivers

Program or Event:  
Food Pantry

"Rescue" food from local restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries and schools.  Must have own transportation and hours are determined in conjunction with the Food Pantry Manager.  Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license and maintain own liability auto insurance.

Interpreter / Translator

Program or Event:  
All programs

MOM has intermittent need for volunteers who can interpret and translate for us.  Times are flexible.

Printmaking Volunteer

Program or Event:  
All programs

Use your artistic skills to help end hunger and prevent homelessness!  We are looking for volunteer to help design and print original works of art as thank-you gifts to area businesses and individuals who support MOM's efforts.  Time is flexible. One time and long term opportunities are available.

Videographer

Program or Event:  
All programs

Use your creative skills & professional talent to help film and produce short videos highlighting MOM programs, community needs, volunteers, and events. Must be able to edit and produce video with own equipment. Time is flexible. One time and long term opportunities are available.

One Time Project Support

Program or Event:  
All programs

MOM has various one-time only projects (such as School Supplies Drive or quarterly mailings) where volunteers are needed.  These would mostly be daytime hours, but some evenings are flexible.  You can also join our Volunteer eList to hear about a variety of ongoing opportunities.

  There was a 54% increase in the number of households visiting MOM's Food Programs in 2011.
